If you are ready to start writing your resume, first you have to decide on a particular format that you will be using. There are two main formats of resume in use today that are chronological and functional format.
In these recent times, chronological resume is one of the common resumes that is expected in most professional positions. This will include your education and work experience in reverse chronological order and also in this section you may indicate an optional section where you can write your professional profile and career objectives.
General Formatting
The list of your full name, complete mailing address and your active contact number will be written at the top of resume. You may also include your cellphone and email address in this section. You can place a page number at the bottom if your resume is more than one page long.
Objectives
This section maybe optional, but most of the job seekers choose to indicate this section on their resume. Here you can tell your potential employer what is the objective of your resume and what exactly you are looking for and gives a brief overview of the your credentials and career goals.
The Body
This the largest section of your resume outline. This section indicates all of the details about your education, working experience, profile, credentials and additional information.
Your Education Background
This part of your resume includes your educational background. It is a list of all schools where you have matriculated. List down all the degree that you obtained; major or minor course of study; the city and state where the school is exactly located; and the dates that you attended school. If any, also include the list of any honors for academic excellence that you received.
If you have professional certifications or licenses, you may opt to include those. You must include the dates for each license or certificate which you have held a valid license, its states and the licensing board who issued your certification.
Your Work History
After the education section, you have to make a chronological outline for your work experience, starting with your most recent position. In this section, you must include the list of your job titles, the name of your employers, the city and states where the company is exactly located, and most specially the dates you have worked for that company.
Also in this section, include two to five sentences which describes all of your accomplishments and primary responsibilities in that particular position. It is acceptable if you have to format your job description either as a paragraph or as a list with bullets.
Significant Achievements
You can think about and list down any significant accomplishments you’ve had on the job, quantify them as much as possible.
Special Skills
This section is also optional. Here you can include additional skills such as computer skills and fluency in any foreign language.
References
References aren’t generally required at this stage, you should leave this section out altogether . It is also optional so you can state that References are available upon request.
