Writing A Basic Curriculum Vitae
A basic layout for curriculum vitae has four parts. It should have the following:
1.) heading
2.) objective
3.) skills summary
4.) education, qualifications and work experience
For the heading of your CV or curriculum vitae, there are five important things that you should include. The heading should contain:
1.) your full name (first name, then last name)
2.) your full address
3.) your e-mail address (must sound and look professional)
4.) your contact numbers (land line and/or mobile number)
After the heading, next would be your objective. This section is nothing more than a short yet concise statement that immediately informs your reader the type and kind of position you are aiming for.
Similar to resumes, a curriculum vitae should never be generic. Each document should be tailored specifically to each job position or opening that you are applying for.
With that said, next up should be your skills summary. In this section of your presentation, the candidate should showcase his or her acquired skills that is relevant to the job position he or she is applying for. It is important that one should never write endless walls of text just to emphasize on their skills and achievements.
Similar to the objective, one should use keywords as well as short concise examples to catch the eye of your reader and keep them interested. Proper highlights or emphasis should also be given on sections that contain facts about you that prospective employers are primarily looking for in a possible candidate.
For the last part, have a list of your education or qualifications in a reverse chronological order. Include the ones that are highly related to the job position that you are targeting. The candidate should also include any special training, awards, and certifications that are also in tune with the position you are currently aiming for.
In case you are someone who has more work or field experience rather than qualifications, it is recommended that you put up your work experience up front or at the top of the list before qualifications.
Keep in mind that one should never include false information in one’s document just to make it look good. Any type of information that could easily mislead your employer will not make you look good in any way. Quality and legit information as well as hard facts is what matters in this document. Also, present all the information in a professional manner. Never exaggerate for it could backfire on the integrity of your document.
