Utilizing The Correct CV Format That Fits You Best

Similar to resumes, curriculum vitaes or CVs also have their respective formats that best presents a job seeker’s profile. There are four different formats for curriculum vitaes. These include: functional, performance, targeted and combination. It is important to familiarize yourself with this because it gives you an edge on how you can effectively present and make your curriculum vitae effective.

The functional curriculum vitae format focuses mainly on work history. This format is best used by individuals who have employment gaps in their careers or by people who work mostly with short-term contracts under different companies.

If you want to emphasize on your past performance, the performance curriculum vitae format will suit you perfectly. Similar to a chronological resume format, this particular format will have your reader’s attention be focused on your overall performance as well as your achievements on every job you had throughout your professional career. For instance, working as a sales agent for the last eight years for three different companies – a performance curriculum vitae would show them how each employment had made you improve your performance through the various tasks and challenges different employers had given you during this time period.

A targeted curriculum vitae format allows you to just fully on your job skills. Similar to a functional resume format, this format allows the candidate to keep their reader’s eyes towards their skills and expertise rather than their work experience. This type of format is best used when your skill sets stand out more than your overall job qualifications. With this format, you only need to include the relevant information required by that specific job you are applying for. This format would serve you best if you have been previously employed in several different fields but is having plans of focusing on just one specific position.

Now last but not least, the combination curriculum vitae format is no doubt the most widely used format for all curriculum vitaes. This type of arrangement is by far the safest and most effective format because it covers all the required and most important aspects of a successful curriculum vitae. Choosing this format allows you to be more versatile on your presentation. Though at times, it is better for you to use a specific format to best fit your current needs but the need for specifics is most likely to be rare.

After deciding upon which format is best for you, never forget to follow to strict rules of curriculum vitae when writing your own document. After done with all the writing, take some time to proofread your work before sending them out to prospective employers. Have a couple of people examine your document and be open to some suggestions that might help improve the quality of your work. When fully confident, it is now time for you to send them out and wait for those interviews to come barging in.
